Mayhem

Norwegian black metal band formed in 1983 in Oslo. Mayhem played a key role in shaping the early Norwegian black metal scene, and the suicide of vocalist dead in 1991 and the murder of Euronymous founder Varg Vikernes in 1993 brought the band notoriety. The debut full-length album De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas (1994) was released after the band ceased to exist. In 1995, former members of various years Hellhammer, Necro butcher and maniacob Joined with new guitarist Blasphemer. The revived Mayhem eventually replaced a vocalist (since 2004, Attila Chihar) and several guitarists, and released four more albums with a more experimental sound, incorporating other musical styles into black metal.
