Motorhead

British hard rock band, which had a great influence on the development of all heavy music, in particular, on the emergence of speed metal, although its music can only be attributed to the style of speed metal with a stretch. The band's music can rather be described as a combination of hard rock, punk rock and proto-thrash.

The band was formed in 1975 by bassist, vocalist, and lyricist Ian Fraser "Lemmy" Kilmister, who was The band's only regular member throughout its long existence. Motörhead was usually a trio. The band achieved its greatest popularity in the early 1980s, when the album Ace of Spades (1980) achieved gold status, reaching number four in the UK charts, and the live album No Sleep 'til Hammersmith reached number one 5 days after its release. These albums, along with Overkill and Bomber, cemented Motörhead's reputation as the main British hard rock band of its time.
